NHL draft... reflections

So, today was day one of the two day NHL draft. Buffalo took the tallest player they could find by making an odd trade for the #12 spot from Los Angeles moving up exactly one position from #13 spot in return the Kings get a 3rd round pick in the 2009 draft. Hmmm, ok. Anyways... Tallest player, just like a certain Buffalo football franchise took the tallest WR this last NFL draft. I think the fans in Buffalo have spoken and what they have said is, please make the team taller.

The real reason for this post was to reflect upon past Sabre drafts... like Taro Tsujimoto back in 1974. I bet Taro wasn't six foot seven, the fans of today would not have approved. It sure would have made the draft more entertaining though. Snooze...

Do they do this sort of hiring in Canada? There donâ€™t seem to be hockey babes during the broadcasts of Hockey Night in Canada.

I have been meaning to mention this, but this year there is a new face on the Buffalo Sabres, and it hasn't take him long to become my favorite. He brings to the Sabres what they were sorely lacking last year.

So, I was looking for a goal from the sabres game this evening. Henrik Tallinder scored the second goal in the Swords win in the OT shoot out and it was a lovely goal... I didn't find it, but instead I found this:

I'm not sure if you've seen the news. It's hard to say who has and who hasn't with the NHL getting little mainstream coverage in non-hockey cities. The NHL has decided to shut down the league while Sidney Crosby recovers from a high ankle strain.

Fairly impressive... except for the part where he releases the drop down puck out of his right skate at the end. I couldn't find a video where the goalie is showing the ref the puck in his glove anywhere.
